Voice Probe for HP OVIS from ADVENAGE
Even if data services are becoming more and more important for GSM and UMTS network providers, service providers and MVNOs around the world, Voice services are still making up the major part of their revenues. Therefore accessibility, retainability and integrity of this service is crucial.
Voice Probe from ADVENAGE is a probe plugin for HP OpenView Internet Services Version 5.0 or higher. Its purpose is to test and measure voice call service availability in cellular networks and to transfer this information to the HP OpenView Internet Services Server for monitoring, alerting and statistical analysis. Voice Probe integrates seamlessly with HP OVIS and other OpenView products.
As a probe plug-in for HP OpenView Internet Services, Voice Probe enables mobile network operators, service providers and MVNOs to run voice service performance monitoring using an industry standard performance management system. This avoids expenditures by running separate OSS systems or integrating non-standard systems into their performance management environments.
Voice Probe comes as a full service package including consulting, installation, support and software maintenance.
Voice Probe gathers availability and performance data by periodically initiating a voice call between two mobile stations (Cellular Modems connected to the probe server), answering the call, keeping it open for some seconds and hanging up.
Whether a measurement was successful can also be made dependent on a particular CLI being presented at the answering modem. In this case, a measurement will only be regarded as successful, if the correct CLI is found.

- Basic voice call:
Voice Probe is able to initiate, answer and hang-up voice calls using one or two voice capable cellular modems. - Voice call mobile-to-mobile:
The basic use-case is to initiate a call from one cellular modem to the other, answer that call and keep it up for a configurable number of seconds before hanging up. If this procedure is successful, availability is rated as 1 (100%). - Voice call to third-party:
A voice call can also be initiated to a third-party, e.g. a voice mail box or another IVR service that will answer automatically. The calling cellular modem hangs up after a configurable number of seconds. If this procedure is successful, availability is rated as 1 (100%). - CLI verification:
The calling cellular modem can be configured to send its CLI when initiating the call. The answering modem can check the presented CLI against a configurable pattern. If the CLI matches, availability is rated as 1 (100%). In this use-case, answering the call is optional.
Measurement results collected by Voice Probe include availability, setup time, response time, ring time, call duration, hang-up time, CLI check result and radio signal strength. Measurement results are transferred to HP OVIS immediately after the probe run is finalized.
Voice Probe currently supports GSM as bearer service. Support for UMTS is in preparation.
