SMS Probe for for HP Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope from ADVENAGE

Short Message Service (SMS) is by far the most important data service of GSM and UMTS network operators, service providers and MVNOs around the world. 80 to 90 percent of data service revenues are achieved with SMS. But accessibility, retainability and integrity of this services is not only crucial from the revenue perspective - there are also many business applications using SMS as a central communication element. In many cases network operators, service providers and MVNOs are required to prove the short message service quality achieved. SMS Probe from ADVENAGE - together with HP's Business Availability Center (BAC) or HP SiteScope (SiS) - was tailored to fulfill these needs of MVNOs, service providers and network operators.

SMS Probe extends extends HP Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope with SMS service testing and monitoring capabilities. SMS Probe simulates SMS service end-users sending and receiving Short Messages over the air or via SMPP and delivers detailed performance data to BAC or SiS. SMS Probe integrates seamlessly with HP BAC, HP SiS and other HP Business Service Management products.

SMS Probe Use Case mobile to mobile

Compared to traditional solutions it follows a new implementation approach allowing for best-in-class reliability and performance. As a probe application for HP Business Availability Center and HP SiteScope, SMS Probe enables mobile network operators, service providers and MVNOs to monitor SMS services using an industry standard performance management system. This avoids expenditures by running separate OSS systems or integrating non-standard systems into their performance management environments.

SMS Probe comes as a full service package including consulting, installation, support and software maintenance.

SMS Probe Features:

SMS Probe gathers availability and performance data by periodically sending and receiving Short Messages (SMs) to and from an SMSC, usually over the air.

Upon reception of a test SM, the round trip time is calculated and logged to HP SiteScope, HP BAC (via HP Business Process Monitor) or other HP Business Service Management products along with a number of additional metrics, such as transaction times for message delivery and messages retrieval and status information.

The measurement data can be instantly displayed on the dashboards of HP SiteScope or HP BAC, may trigger alarms in un-availability and can be used to calculate KPI compliance. Threshold values different metrics allow for early detection of service quality degrations.

Critical system states - e.g. SMSC or interconnection failures - as well as SLA/KPI violations are detected in time and can be reported to the Network-Management-Center using standard HP SiS and HP BAC reporting and alarming functions like SNMP, E-Mail or SMS. Direct SNMP notifications may be raised as well. This allows for quick reaction on performance bottlenecks and system failures and helps to reduce revenue loss due to system unavailability from the end customer perspective.

Interoperability with HP Business Availability Center

SMS Probe provides full interoperability with HP Business Availability Center (BAC). Two of the data collectors of BAC - HP SiteScope and HP Business Process Monitor - are supported to collect data from SMS Probe.

HP SiteScope Integration

Integration with HP SiteScope is achieved by registering SMS Probe as custom probe via the scripting interface of SiteScope. Advantage is quick and easy deployment, and metrics reported can be selected from the SiteScope configuration dialogs.
SiteScope integration provides full functionality, including geographical distributed measurements and allows to integrate UNIX and Windows based systems. SMS Probe integration via SiteScope is especially useful for smaller installations.

HP Business Process Monitor Integration

Integration with HP SiteScope is achieved by an extension of the HP Virtual User Generator language. It allows to directly trigger SMS end to end measurements and to process metrics received back as well as additional failure information.

HP BPM integration is intended for larger installations running several data collectors, usually at different location. The central repository service of BAC enables central development, testing and deployment of SMS measurements at different locations from the central management system. Measurement results appear in the end user management section of BAC and may be aggregated for SLA and KPI performance tracking. HP OpenView Interoperability

SMS Probe alsosupports HP OpenView Internet Services. For you as a customer this includes a number of advantages, including proved interoperability and seamless integration.
